Before unification there was a lot of power struggle between the small rulling kingdoms of Nepal. There was a lack of feeling of patriotism and support. Nepal was divided into small kingdoms like Baise, Chaubise, malla, Sen, etc which had made the country vulnerable to the foreign attacks especially from the British rule,Who were already capthuring India.
The British from the southern side were looking for an opportunity to enter Nepal with the intention of capturing it.

Prithvi Narayan Shah was an expert and far sighted politician and a Successful administrator because he had already known about the plan of British of conquering nepal so he was already prepared in advance and had started unification campaign. He knew it is impossible for a small kingdoms to stop British so we need a large soldiers and expert then he go for unification of a single nepal. First he spread his own small kingdom from Gorkha to Tista in the east and set the roots for geographical unification. He respected the culture
and tradition of each place equally and set the root for cultural unification also unified the sentiments of the people and gained their favor.
