Factors affecting temperature class 8

 Very short answer questions

1.List four factors that affect the climate of a place.
The factors affecting climate are latitude,
altitude, land and water distribution, distance from the sea, distance from the sun, prevailing winds and ocean currents, surface covering the land, volcanism, solar constant sunspots, wind direction and nature of mountain chains, mountain barriers, etc

2. What is the latitudinal location of Tropical Zone?
The latitudinal location of Tropical Zone is 23½ degree North and 23½ degree south from the equator.

3. Why do we feel hot throughout the year in equatorial region? Write in sentence.
we feel hot throughout the year in equatorial region because this region receives direct sun rays from the sun throughout the year.

4.Why do we feel cold when we go to the high altitude?
we feel cold when we go to the high altitude because temperature decrease by 1 degree C with the increase of every 165 m in altitude.

5.The places near the sea are cooler than the places farther away from the sea. Why?
The places near the sea are cooler than the places farther away from the sea because water takes more time to warm up and is able to retain the heat longer than the land far away from the sea.

6. What is the main factor affecting the climate of Nepal?

The main factor affecting the climate of Nepal are latitude, altitude, land and water distribution, distance from the sun, surface covering the land, nature of mountain chains, mountain barriers, etc

Short answer questions

1 Write down the factors affecting the temperature. Explain any one of then  one of them
The factors affecting the temperature are
latitude,
altitude,
distance from the sea
Ocean current, etc

Altitude

Altitude is an important factor determining the temperature of a place. Temperature decreases by 1° Celsius with the increase of every 165 m altitude. This means that the mountain environment is much colder than low lying areas. In addition, the density of air in the higher altitude is lower than the lowlands. The higher the density, more heat from the Sun is absorbed thus temperature is lower in higher altitude as than in the lower areas.

2. How does distance from the sea affect the climate of a place? Describe with suitable diagram.
Page no 142 distance from sea all.

3. How latitude and altitude affect the climate? Explain with the help of neat
diagram.

Latitude

Equator or 0° latitude receives direct rays from the Sun throughout the year. This results in higher temperature there. Therefore, the region that is 23½° north and 23½° south from the equator, known as the Tropical Zone are warmer. Places that lie in this zone are warmer than places at the poles.

Temperature decreases as we go towards the north or the south of the equator. his variation in temperature is due to the curvature of the Earth and the angle of the Sun rays reaching the Earth's surface.
